Development of a centralised network management model

Developer working at the computer

Industry
  • Media & Telecommunications

Challenge
Considering that the client’s diverse areas/teams work with different tools, it became necessary to start using a centralised source of information, due to the problems of the previous management model, namely:
  • Information scattering.
  • Changes made by different teams, at different times, without communication between them.
  • Inability to check history for a specific network.

Solution

The project aims to develop a centralised source of information, integrating several existing modules into a general management model. The advantages are:

  • Centralised information with guaranteed access for all the responsible teams.
  • Centralised network history with current and future practical advantages.
  • Continuous development model, in which any future use case can be added to the general operating flow.
  • Possibility of removing obsolete use cases or improving them, without affecting processes running simultaneously on the network.

Methodology

In order to create this general management model, a project team was created with a Project Manager in charge. The methodology included Agile and Kanban elements.

Technologies

  • Java
  • Google Cloud
  • Kibana
  • Kafka
  • JavaScript
  • ArangoDB
  • Jira
  • Excel
  • PowerPoint
  • Company tools

Results

The various teams have standardised their specific frameworks and fitted their work into the general management model.

This general model contains the entire network architecture and involves the centralised source of information. The solution’s design has been finalised and the production phase is underway.

Time and resources

This is a continuous development project. The initial development phase of the solution took 1 month and 15 days. The production phase up to the final product is expected to last 1 year, with continuous improvements afterwards.

There are 17 people from 5 different teams currently contributing to this project, including:

  • 1 Deputy Director.
  • 1 Project Manager.
  • 8 Developers
  • 2 Data Analysts.
  • 5 Team Leaders.
